CYLCHDAITH YR WYDDFA - SNOWDON LOW LEVEL CIRCULAR FOOTPATH
This was a project management commission working for Snowdonia Active to develop the concept of a low level upland walking route around the Snowdon Massif. Part of the work was to complete a condition survey along with a feasibility study looking into the viability of developing the route along with establishing development and management costings.
The project was managed by a steering group made up of senior management representatives from The National Trust, Countryside Council for Wales, Forestry Commission Wales, Snowdonia National Park Authority, DE&T. Managed by Snowdonia Active and funded by Visit Wales.
A feasible route was identified and agreed after public and stakeholder consultation. The route was named Cylchdaith Yr Wyddfa.
Aside of being responsible for the management of the project, work included:
Developing a frame of reference
Full route condition survey
Route identification
Risk assessments and risk management
Landowner consultation
Public presentations & workshops
Liaising with the Snowdonia Local Access Forum
Reporting to the steering group
Project development
Outline costings
Identifying potential capital funds
A route guide was later produced by the late Peter Bursnall who's knowledge and enthusiasm for the route were instrumental in its creation.
