STAGE 1 - Concept Development

The first stage was to develop the concept with Denbighshire Countryside Services team. This included designing various layout options and the layout and specifications for the perimeter earth bund on which the trails would be constructed. Once plans were finalised planning permission was obtained and contractors sourced for the initial earth bund build.

STAGE 2 - DESIGN & DESIGN SUPERVISION

Stage 2, was the formation of the bund to the layout that CA had designed. This bank of earth (bund) would run around the entire perimeter of the site, with a higher elevation at the one end near the site entrance. Over 100,000 tones of material were imported and shaped by groundwork contractors Griffiths to create this 1 km bund. This would provide the side slope and fall required to run the trails on and down each side.

STAGE 2 - PRINCIPLE CONTRACTOR DESIGN & BUILD

Stage 3 began with Cartwright Associates being appointed the Principle Contractor for the design and build of the trails and park paths. The trails were then cut into the earth bank running down each side with a returning path up the middle of the site. Trails were constructed from high quality local sub base with a compatible dust running course, trails constructed included:

  • 1 km of pump track style blue trail
  • 2 km of pump track style red trail
  • 2 km of pump track style black trail
  • 800 m of access tracks and all related drainage works
