KIELDER FOREST PARK
A contract to design a new signature descending section of red grade MTB trail into the lower section of the Deadwater Fell Descent. Part of the Deadwater Trail at Kielder Forest, in Northumberland.
The client required a modern, highly featured, fast flowing, descending section, with a series of jumps and technical trail features. The trail would be expected to attract new riders and encourage existing riders to ride more often. In addition the section would need to have the ability to attract an uplift service as well as attracting new events e.g. enduro, gravity enduro and downhill events. As such black line and pro line options would need to be included in the sections design. The descent off Deadwater Fell (571 m) is enough to allow the site to be used for a major downhill event, as such the section would need to consider how it would meet the needs of the red grade riders and potentially a high end black grade down hill race section.
