A trail design contract to design trails for the National Forest Cycle Centre at Hicks Lodge. Working for the National Forest Company on the former Hicks Lodge open cast coal pit site, the contract was to design:
3 km of shared use path
7 km blue graded trail
3 km green graded trail
Plus all associated technical trail features, drainage, wooden cycle bridges, cycle road crossings etc...
The contract works included:
Full design BOQ's, specifications and drawings
CDM & H&S management
Design stage, design risk assessment and method statements
On site setting out
Working with the visitor centre design team to integrate the trails and centre facilities
Worked with the project team to assemble the planning application
We also provided on site design supervision during the construction phase. Work included:
Monitoring trail design & construction standards
Work valuations & completion reports
Signing off
Environmental compliance
Planning compliance
The National Forest Cycle Centre project won an East Midlands Development Award - Small Project of the Year and came 2nd in the PROCON Awards.
The National Forest Cycle Centre design has been featured by Sport England in its Active Design Guides as an exemplar cycling project.
